Measuring only 13.5 square miles and located just minutes from downtown San Diego, this enchanted island has it all: beaches, parks, numerous recreational activities, highly rated schools, top notch municipal services, a wonderful climate and an ideal location. Also, there is a gas station, but it was cheaper to get gas from the Valero not far from the gates. My husband works here for 10 years now. Probably one of the greatest looking and overall best Navy Base in the entire Naval Branch. One of my fav bases so far. Traffic is moderate since it's on the island but it seems to be managed well as most roads basically just lead to the base on the far side of the island. I come here all the time to come to the rarely crowded beach, Breakers Beach, to enjoy the bonus of being stationed in the area.If any military personnel are within the area, highly suggest you check it out. Employing over 36,000 military and civilian personnel, NBC accounts for over 30% of the Region's total workforce, and has the largest workforce in San Diego County. Can you guess which one? The NB Coronado (North Island) Main Gate is located at the Intersection of Third and Alameda Blvd. Better than 32nd St due to its smallness and traffic isn't as bad. I really like the NEX they have. It's beautiful with lovely weather, decent streets, a nice NEX, and water views. Then again what would we expect when we have nearly perfect weather conditions 90% year around? It also has a bowling alley which is okay.
