Test prep books and practice questions are great, and classes and tutors are helpful, but there’s no substitute for seeing what you’ll actually face on test day and doing a trial run. The point of the ALEKS placement test is usually to take it twice -- after the first attempt, it lets you know what you need to practice, gives you a personalized environment to practice in, and then you take the placement test again. My first 2 attempts were awful, I didn’t study at all for my first attempt since I’d thought it would be easy. So if the test was harder the second time, that was good news for you -- it means you got the first few questions correct (probably the beginning algebra questions).
