Gigondas La Cave - Signature

$0.00

Appellation: Gigondas

Region: Southern Rhone Valley

Grape Varieties: Grenache noir - Syrah- Mourvèdre - Cinsault

Vineyard: Located on the left bank of the Rhône and nestled against the first foothills of the Alps, the vineyard of Gigondas is sheltered by the famous Dentelles de Montmirail, overlooking the entire valley. The soil consists of stony red clay alluvium on slopes and wide terraces facing the northwest. The Mediterranean climate, characterized by sunny days and cool nights, along with the Mistral—a regional wind—facilitates the optimal maturation of the grapes.

Winemaking: The grapes come from the mid and high foothills of Gigondas mountains and are picked during the middle and at the end of the harvest by hand. The traditional winemaking occurs on totally destemmed grapes. During the 30 days of alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes unballasting and manual punching of the cap. Then it is aged in large barrels of oak for 12 months.

Tasting Notes: This red wine with a deep purple color and strong intensity is very brilliant and limpid. A very complex and powerful nose of spices and black fruit aromas. After aeration, blackberries and blackcurrant flavors dominate the wine with a slight note of plum, cinnamon, cherries and undergrowth. The entry is powerful, and tannins structured. This wine presents a big potential to be kept down. It would be better to open it 1 or 2 hours before drinking to enjoy it in its best shape.
