Château Montus - Red

$0.00

Through observation, various experiments, and a desire to enhance the terroir by drawing out all of its substance, Alain Brumont, Antoine Veiry and his team produce the best expression from the Montus vineyards.

Appellation: Madiran

Region: South West France

Grape Varieties: Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon

Vineyard: Château Montus takes full advantage of unique terroirs in southwest France, located on steep slopes with fine clay and large pebbles resulting from the formation of the Pyrenees. The 30-year-old vines grow on these slopes, which feature big pebbles mixed with brown and red clays. Facing south/southwest, this warm and well-drained soil enhances grape ripening. Yields are deliberately kept low at 6-7 bunches per plant, and the entire harvest is done manually to ensure only the best grapes are selected.

Winemaking: After 3 to 6 weeks of maceration, fermentation takes place in wooden vats with punching down the cap, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged on the lees for 12-14 months in 60-80% new barrels.

Tasting Notes: This is a pleasant and deep wine, with soft red fruit coulis and fine tannins, offering excellent balance. Power and elegance are perfectly combined to create a truly delightful wine.

Food Pairing: Château Montus pairs well with beef ribs, duck breast, and spicy oriental food.
