Château Maucoil – Privilège
Chateauneuf du Pape AOC
Grape Varieties:
Grenache 50% – Syrah 15 % – Mourvedre 12% – Cinsault 8% – Clairette and Bourboulenc 5%
Vineyard:
Château Maucoil’s vineyards are located in the North West of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape area, on the left bank of the Rhône river. An ideal location that allows the estate to be entirely organic since 2011. The wine is made from the oldest vines of the estate (70 years old) surrounded by the 13 grapes varieties allowed in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The entire harvest is carried out by hand and the grapes placed in crates.
Winemaking:
All grape varieties are vinified together. After fermenting around 30 days, with pumping over, rack-and-return and punching down operations, the wine goes into either 228L or 600 barrels (new or previously used for one vintage), depending on the plot. The wine is aged for a period of 12 to 18 months in barrels, before being bottled and aged once more.
Tasting Note:
Strong ruby red color with a powerful and extremely complex nose of fine spices, fruit, black olives and garrigue shrubland. Concentrated on the palate, with nice polished tannins and an exceptional length offering spices and black fruits.
Food Paring:
To be served between 17-18°C, this wine can be decanted one hour before serving. It will pair nicely with meats served on special occasions. It can be laid down for around 15 years depending on the vintage.
