Château Fonréaud
Listrac-Médoc AOC
Château Fonréaud is well-known for its historic vineyard and the quality of its wines. Its name comes from a legend, and it enjoys a privileged location on the highest point in the Médoc.
Grapes Varieties:
53% Cabernet-Sauvignon 43% Merlot – 4% Petit Verdot
Vineyard:
In 1962, Léo Chanfreau, wine grower in Algéria, visited several châteaux in France. Seduced by Fonréaud, he acquired the
wine-growing estate and decided to settle down with his family. Nowadays, the vineyard is still operated by the family. Jean, Marie-Hélène and Caroline Chanfreau-Philippon continue the family-effort and ensure its modernisation. Vine care constantly ensures a balance between the plant and its environment, and soil made of gravel and clay.
Winemaking:
A strict selection of the parcels and the grapes takes place during the harvest. After a gentle crushing and destemming, the must is put into small thermo-regulated vats bringing out the expression, the richness and the nuances of each plot. The vatting time lasts for 20 to 25 days depending on the vintage.
Tasting Notes:
Thanks to a subtle blend of grape varieties, the terroir comes through round wines with ripe tannin and fine structure developing a beautiful palate. Fine notes of spices are packed with intense red and black fruits aromas to deliver a velvety and balance wine.
