Pessac Leognan Rouge AOC
Guided by the businessman Bernard Barthe, who became its owner in 1994, the estate undertook a genuine renaissance with a program of considerable investments in the vines and facilities. It was in 2004 that the Mau family and the Dutch businessman, Cees Dirkzwager, acquired the estate. Jean-Christophe Mau, the 5th generation of the Bordeaux wine-trading Mau family, took over the property. Following in the footsteps of the previous owner, he conducted a quality-focused strategy and investing in the vines, winemaking procedures, human resources and cutting-edge equipment.
Grape Varieties:
55% Cabernet Sauvignon – 40% Merlot – 5% Petit Verdot
Vineyard:
The vineyard is aged of 20 years and grapes grow on a 59-acre gravelly and clay-limestone soil.
Winemaking:
After a manual harvest with a bunch selection on the vine, the fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Then the wine stay 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels.
Tasting note:
This wine offers both rich color and opulent bouquet with red cherries, strawberry and raspberry scents. With a medium-bodied palate, this wine integrates oak hints.
Food pairing :
This wine will match with risotta and roast partridges along with young vegetables, but it will be perfect with dark chocolate or red fruit desserts.
