Vire-Clesse Quintaine AOC

Family estate located in the Maconnais region,  the wines of Jean Thevenet have the reputation of true Burgundian character. There is in this vintage the full expression of Bongran’s terroir, where the subsoil flushes at the foot of the vines, which brings complexity and finesse to the wine, a balance just between aromatic power and freshness. An original wine distinguished by its great style.

Grape Variety:

100% Chardonay

Vineyard:

The flagship estate of the Thévenet family extends over 37 acres on the land of Quintaine. Emile then Jean and his son Gautier Thévenet, the last links of the chain, heirs of the know-how: always work while respecting the nature and its special terroir. At the estate all the work is done manually, as the vines are at least 60 years old and need to be work cautiously. High maturity harvest, low yield and environmental friendly practices in the vineyard make the wine very special. The soil is a resurgence of the “Cote des Blancs” providing power and breed to a unique final result.

Winemaking:

The vinification is a major step where friendly techniques are still preferred, wild yeast are used before starting a long-term and malolactic fermentation. No oak is used but stainless steel are, in order to keep the freshness of the wine. Bottling occurs once year only and the bottles are kept in the cellar until the wine develops mature and ripe characteristics. They are discreetly release only when ready to be fully enjoyed.

Tasting Note:

The nose offers a gourmet bouquet on truffles and anise scents. The palate is equal to the mouth-watering nose, revealing flavors of candied pears, honeyed apples and spices. Those aromas are developed in a medium-bodied structure, carried by an expressive freshness that last to the finish. Should be drink within 4 years.

Food pairing:

This will be the perfect companion of a risotto with scallops.
