Gigondas AOC

Grape Variety:

75% Grenache noir – 15% Syrah- 10% Mourvèdre and Cinsault

Vineyard:

On the left bank of the Rhône, backing against the first foot-hills of the Alps, the vineyard of Gigondas, sheltered by the famous Dentelles de Montmirail, overlook the whole valley. The soil is made of stony red clay alluvium on slopes, and wide terraces facing the North-West. The Mediterranean weather with sunny days and fresh nights facilitate the maturation of the grapes as much as the Mistral, a regional wind.

Winemaking:

The grapes come from the mid and high foothills of Gigondas mountain picked-up in the middle and at the end of the harvest by hand.  The traditional winemaking occurs on totally destemmed grapes. During the 30 days of alcoholic fermentation the wine  undergoes unballasting and manual punching of the cap. Then it is  aged in large barrels of oak during 12 months.

Tasting Note:

This is a red wine with deep purple color, strong intensity, very brilliant and limpid. A very complex and powerfull nose of spices and blacks fruits aromas. After aeration, blackberries, blackcurrant flavors dominate with a slightly note of plum, cinnamon, cherries and undergrowth. The entry is powerful and tannins structured. This wine presents a big potential to be kept down. It would be better to open it 1 or 2 hours before the tasting, in order to enjoy it in its best shape.

Food Pairing:

This full-bodied wine will perfectly go along with tasty meat and umami food.
