Domaine du Grand Tinel

Historically, the AOP Châteauneuf-du-Pape exists since the 16th century. The Domaine du Grand Tinel history begins in 1968 with the mariage of Christiane Establet and Pierre Élie Jeune. Today, this Domaine represents 53 hectars of vineyards. The majority of the vineyards are very old (about 75 years). Indeed, this give to the wine a greater concentration of aromas and flavours. Nowadays, it’s the children Isabelle, Béatrice and Christophe who are managing the Estate.

This cuvée is made from 80% Grenache noir and 20% Syrah. Riper Syrah and Grenache have been matured in big oak barrels (“foudres de chêne”). This technique give a slight toasty flavours and make the tannins smoother. Then, the softer Grenache have been matured in vats in order to preserve the fruitiness. So, it displays aromas and flavours of blackcurrant, cherries, violet and black pepper. You can wait a long time before drinking this wine (8 to 10 years).

92/100: Joe Czerwinski for Wine Advocate, Josh Raynolds for Vinous & Jeb Dunnuck
