Pomerol AOC

The vineyard of Clos René, family-run property passed down from one generation to the next since more than a century, is located in the commune of Pomerol, 40 kilometres North-east of Bordeaux, on the right bank. In the past, the domain was mentioned on the Belleyme’s map of the region (1764) under the name of “Reney”. Nowadays, Jean-Marie Garde, grandson and successor of Pierre Lasserre, gives all his attention and experience to the care of growing and vinification of Clos René’s vines.  Even if Clos René is not the most Pomerol’s domain covered by the media, or the most renowned, it remains remarkable for the regularity of its vintages.

Grape Variety:

70% Merlot – 20% Cabernet-Franc – 10% Malbec

Vineyard:

The choice of a sustained management was made on the 29 acres in order to obtain the healthiest crop as possible. Vines are in average 25 years old and take advantage from a sandy-gravel on ferruginous sandstone subsoil.

Winemaking:

Classical vinification in thermo-regulated concrete vats. Ageing for 18 months, with 25% new oak.

Tasting Note:

The bouquet is astonished by raspberry and strawberry scents slightly marked by fine spices. The medium-palate shows strength and finesse with smooth tannins enhance by a flavorful finish.

Food Pairing:

This Pomerol will perfectly match a grilled rib steak, or  duck breast and pepper sauce, along with seasonal
vegetables. This wine will be perfect with a good selection of cheeses. Can be laid down for 10 to 15 years.
