Bordeaux Supérieur

“You can be big and still produce wines that confirm their class year in, year out.”

Philippe Person manages a large estate of 120 hectares of vines, all of which bear the “Bordeaux Supérieur” label.
His vineyard stands almost in a single stretch thanks to the successive generations who have managed to unify all the different plots of land. A trained oenologist with10 years’ experience in wine trading, he took over the estate with the aim of restructuring the vineyard in order to optimise its value.
At the helm since 1999, his watchword is quality : “above all, quality comes from the vine” he says with a protective, admiring glance at his rows of Merlot and Cabernet. It is true that the vineyard is the subject of lavish attention and is more than worthy of the admiration it receives.
Grass cover, green harvesting methods, leaf-stripping and mechanical work that is often then completed by hand – this winegrower spares no effort. His secret is faultless organisation; fifteen people work alongside him and support him in his quest for controlled quality, and his wife will soon be joining him on the estate. This determined man is running a well-oiled machine: “I want good substance and sufficient extraction to produce a full-bodied, well-structured, fruity wine”.

Grape Variety :

75 % Merlot, 17 % Cabernet franc
8 % Cabernet sauvignon

Vineyard:

It is true that the vineyard is the subject of lavish attention and is more than worthy of the admiration it receives.
Grass cover, green harvesting methods, leaf-stripping and mechanical work that is often then completed by hand – this winegrower spares no effort. This determined man is running a well-oiled machine: “I want good substance and sufficient extraction to produce a full-bodied, well-structured, fruity wine”.

Winemaking:

Once picked, the grapes go through successive sorting processes with straining of the juice. The wine is made in stainless-steel vats with temperature control, and vatting lasts about 3 weeks. The wine is matured in stainless steel or cement vats for 12 to 18 months.

Tasting Note:

Château Jalousie Beaulieu is a supple, robust wine, fruity and long in the month. It can be enjoyed young but also has good ageing potential.

Pairing Food:

Serve at 18°C with meat or cheeses.
