Pomerol AOC

Louis Soualle, the current owners’ great-grandfather, acquired Château GAZIN in the early 20th century, and it is now managed with the greatest of care by his descendants. They represent the fifth generation of owners of wine-growing estates. The vineyards of Pomerol gradually developed between the 12th century and the French Revolution under the aegis of the knights of Saint-Jean of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta. Château GAZIN, which was a hamlet in the 18th century, is probably located on the site of the “Hospital of Pomeyrols”, built by the knights to receive pilgrims on the Santiago de Compostela route.

Grape Variety:

90% Merlot – 7% Cabernet Sauvignon – 3% Cabernet-Franc

Vineyard:

Manual harvest. Alcoholic fermentations in small concrete vats, grape varieties by grape varieties and plot by plot. Vatting for 2 to 3 weeks. Malolactic fermentation in vats or in barrels. Aging for 18 months in oak barrels, with 50% new oak.

Winemaking:

Their sumptuous generosity offers a wide aromatic range of red and black fruit which harmonizes with their intense crimson or garnet red colour. They typically offer hints of plum, chocolate, coffee or liquorice, with aromas of almonds, toast, tobacco and vanilla, and a minty freshness. With maturity they develop a spicy nose, with a hint of truffles, notes of undergrowth, game, fur and leather.

Tasting Note:

The 2014 has a beautiful deep colour. It starts out quite powerful on the palate and continues into a beautiful long aftertaste. There are hints of black fruit (blackberry and blackcurrant) and red fruit (cherries), and already such nuances as forest floor, incense, and cedar. The warm (balsamic) overtones confirm the ripeness in 2014.

Food Pairing:

Serve at 17-18°C with scrambled eggs with truffle shaves, roasted filet of hind with pan-fried Foie Gras, or with grilled cutlets of lamb and pan-fried boletus mushrooms. This wine will be perfect with a good selection of cheeses.
