2015 has given vines optimum conditions to make a great vintage: homogenous blossoming, warm and sunny summer that enabled a long maturation, the secret to every great vintage. This vintage does well-balanced wines with character that shows a nice acidity and smooth and mellowness tannins.
Grape Varieties:
50% Merlot – 50% Cabernet Sauvignon
Vineyard:
Located in Podensac, facing south the vines are in average 25 years old. The soil is made of gravels with layers of fine and medium-grain sand on a clay-limestone subsoil. The Lévêque Family created the estate in 1966 and choose a reasoned cultivation and other techniques to improve the quality of their grapes such as controlled productivity, disbudding, thinning out of the leaves.
Winemaking:
Both manual and mechanical harvest are done followed by a cold pre fermentary maceration. Fermentation starts in small, temperatured-controlled vats and lasts for 3 to 4 weeks. Then the wine aged in barrel for 12 months in 50% new Frenck oak.
Tasting:
Beautiful ruby colour, seductive and complex on the nose with hints of toasted bread and ripe blackberry. On the palate the attack is direct and generous, underpinned by silky tannins.
Pairing Food:
Aged Wines such as Chantegrive 2016 can be enjoyed with red meats,game birds poultry and mild cheeses.
