Château Bouscassé – Argile rouge
Madiran AOC
In his quest for even more promising terroirs, Alain Brumont discovered a particular parcel located on the border of Château Bouscassé vineyards. Without any industry or towns to pollute the air or water, the vines benefit from an ideal environment in which Alain Brumont is able to apply his method and create wines such as Argile Rouge.
Grape Varieties:
Tannat, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Fer Servadou
Vineyard:
This very rare terroir consists of two plots of red clay on a subsoil of fissured rock, which provides perfect humidity. Planted with Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, this ferruginous terroir produces an elegant, mellow flavorful wine.
Winemaking:
Whereas it’s common to separate the grapes before the winemaking process, for this cuvée they are blended before. Maceration, fermentation and malolactic fermentation take place in wooden vats. The wine is aged on lees for more than a year, with 30% in new oak barrels and the rest in one year old barrels.
Tasting Note:
Aromas of blood oranges, cooked and caramelized red fruits are very well balanced with the soft tanins.
Food Pairing:
Argile Rouge will be delightful with pork or chicken based Asian food.
